House looked great for the 100th

The house was looking its best for the 100th Anniversary event and for the undergraduate members who moved in for the school year. It didn’t look nearly that good when our tenants moved out in June, but we kept their deposits to repair the damage they caused and invested our own funds to make sure the house was ready. Projects included:

• A renovated shower room with privacy partitions, heated floors, and new exhaust fan and lighting. Thank you to brother Chris Wall, ’90-1262, for managing this project and to brother Brian Dunahugh, ’93-1334, for donating the tiles.

• New laminate flooring in all the upstairs hallways and new carpeting on the stairs.

• New paint on the interior walls and ceiling in the foyer, living room, dining room, and stairway.

• Security cameras and a state-of-the-art wifi, donated by Eric Cox, parent of member Ryan Cox.

• Two new refrigerators in the breakfast bar and late plate area.

• New furniture for the living room, including a leather couch and four leather chairs.

• A garden shed for yard tools.

We have been working with CSL Management to conduct monthly inspections of the facility and provide a repair list for our subcontractors to complete. This has helped us stay on top of issues both small and large to provide the students with a comfortable place to live.

Looking ahead, we have several large repairs looming including renovating the bathroom in the resident advisor quarters, repairing the fire escape, and replacing the heating system. We estimate the cost to be approximately $150,000.

Our 83-year-old house is in good shape, but it will require continued investment to make sure it’s ready for its 100th birthday a generation down the road.
