be a mentor

Students arriving on campus today are more focused on their future than ever and are looking for opportunities to prepare themselves for post-graduation life. Mentoring can be a difference maker for them and for our chapter.

Mentoring Program

The Oregon Alpha mentoring program connects undergraduate members with alumni who can help them while they are in school, when they graduate, and as they navigate their professional life. We were the first chapter to pilot this program with the national fraternity and we are the only fraternity at the University of Oregon giving our members this opportunity.

The program is easy to participate in, does not require previous mentoring experience, and is flexible to fit your schedule. It is an invaluable experience for students who are figuring out their future and looking to make connections. Here is how it works:

The mentoring program starts as soon as Fall rush is complete:

  • The Mentoring Committee introduces new members to the program and recruits alumni to participate.

  • New undergraduates and alumni register for the Mentoring Advantage Program on the Phi Psi Connect portal.

  • We pair alumni and undergraduates according to their careers and areas of interest.

Fall term

The mentoring sessions start after the winter break and last into the spring. The program is set up to make it really easy for alumni to participate by providing the structure and the resources you need. Here’s how it works:

  • Alumni mentors reach out to their undergraduates to introduce themselves and decide how (e.g. video calls) and when to meet.

  • The Phi Psi Connect system suggests milestones and sends reminders for completing them.

  • Discussion guides are available to support mentoring sessions.

Signing up

Alumni can sign up any time by visiting the Phi Psi Connect portal. You can choose to mentor an Oregon Alpha undergraduate or get paired with students from any chapter. Once you sign up, we’ll look to see if there is a good match for you in the Fall and reach out to you.
